About Us

Exemption Matric Centre

Exemption Matric Centre (Exemption) is a second chance matric re-write initiative assisting matriculants wanting to improve
their chances of access to tertiary education. Originally launched in Nkandla since 2014, the centre now has now grown to
four branches and prioritizes learners from historically disadvantaged backgrounds by availing experts and specialists in key
subjects for matric.
Exemption Matric Centre focuses on ensuring that every learner is given maximum attention to help them achieve their best
results. Working collaboratively with tertiary institutions in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Exemption knows which subjects to focus on in
order to access tertiary and use that knowledge to guide and advise learners in the project when selecting the subjects to
upgrade. Providing after-hour classes; the centre focuses more on numeric and science subjects.

OUR EDUCATORS

Our core team of teachers is a spectrum of dynamic knowledgeable subject specialists who have been headhunted and hand-picked based on their qualification, experience and passion on the subjects they teach. Supplementing our core team are teachers-in-training who serve as tutors under the guidance of an experience educator.

They assist with home works, study groups and
one-on-one consultation with our learners.

OUR LEARNERS

Exemption Matric Centre accepts matriculants doing National Curriculum Statement (NCS) and Curriculum & Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS). While intending catering for all matriculants wanting to enhance their tertiary access chances, priority is given to youth from rural areas and previously disadvantaged areas.

Our Founder

Professional Background

Behind the founding philosophy of Exemption Matric Centre is Lungisani Mavundla; an accountant by qualification who started his professional career as a Customer Care Consultant and later a Multi-Skilled Expert at FNB Branch Banking in Durban after which he was promoted to being an Admin Manager at First Rand Card Division in Johannesburg. A financial and cost management specialist, Mavundla leverages on corporate management experience and exposure; having served as a Senior Cost Controller at Anglo Platinum Corporate Head Office where he was specializing in cost allocation and asset management.

An Entrepreneur and Philanthropist

An established businessman and youth activist, Mavundla is a founding member and managing director in a variety of corporations including Exemption Matric Centre; one of the leading matric tuition centres in South Africa. He is also an icon member of Rural Students Association which is a movement of students and young professionals from rural and historically disadvantaged townships equipping rural learners with tertiary access and success information as well as financial assistance. His NPO, Rural Right NPC, has a network of more than 3000 schools in KZN with which he has a relationship on mentorship and motivation of kids.

A Media Personality

A media personality and entrepreneur, Lungisani Mavundla’s experience spans across owning his mass media and communications company, Mavundla Media, which specializes on online and electronic broadcasting of, as well as, live performances of artists in various genres as well as other works of speech. He is a multi-award winning author with his own publishing company called Topnotch Communications and a Media and Events Company Mavundla Media. His media career includes being a Principal Writer at Ukhozi FM Drama Department to which he is also a contributor on matters written and spoken word. His radio career brags being a breakfast show content producer and co-host on Izwi Lomzansi FM where he also had his own show as a radio presenter.
